[Poem] Sweet

Sweet

By Katherine Hodge

Bring me to my mother’s breast,

willingly given,

tenderly graced

Gather me to my lover’s palm,

shyly offered,

silently adored

No sugar white melts on my tongue as sweetly as

delicate roses on summer’s gentle dress

the quiet whispers in my beloved’s ear

our hearth, our home, the steady gaze of our wedding vows

That soft, ripe edge of grace

Long forgotten,

Grown in the soil of bitter years

Bring me to its lace in my mouth, my love

That I may sing you a new song
